Thornton Sports were engaged by Athlone Institute of Technology to build them a FIFA 2 * artificial grass full size soccer pitch. It is hailed as one of the best soccer pitches in all of the midlands and is used by the FAI for both training and competition.

Thorntons were delighted to be the first specialist artificial sport surface engineers to build two Full Size soccer pitches, both of which have been independently tested and certified. The FIFA 2* quality concept is recognised as the highest qualifying soccer pitch standard in the world.

Thornton Sports are equally recognised for the consruction of high quality, user friendly, resilient artificial grass training pitches. These "astro" style pitches are hugely popular with clubs, as the artificial grass allows clubs extended training periods and are a valuable source of revenue.
